Enterprise NI, the Members - Objectives

In order to achieve its vision Enterprise NI has the following objectives:

1.  To increase the business birth rate
2.  To sustain and grow existing businesses

Enterprise NI Capability

A Northern Ireland wide service with a highly qualified team of experienced business advisors with excellent business facilities.

Enterprise NI has a range of capabilities which ensure that it can provide a Northern Ireland wide, quality service to customers including:

Location and access - Enterprise NI has 32 members operating from 40 locations throughout Northern Ireland in all 26 local authorities.

Facilities - members have developed a range of facilities ideally suited to hosting training courses and seminars; providing client interview rooms for business advisory/mentoring sessions; and having other support facilities, including secretarial suites, business libraries and ICT facilities. 

Training rooms - purpose-designed to accommodate a minimum number of 20 trainees and fitted out with modern training aids including data projectors and computer based training facilities.

Office and Industrial Units - 1.63 million square feet of property and 1538 business units.

Personnel - Enterprise NI has 200 staff working in a range of roles including Programme Management and Quality Control, Business Advisors/Mentors, Business Start Trainers, ICT Trainers/Advisors, Office Administrators and front-line reception/client interview personnel.

Staff Accreditation
-  94 business Advisors are members of the Institute of Business Advisors (IBA)
-  10 members are approved assessors under the Small Firms Enterprise Development Initative (SFEDI); a further 75 will have completed their training in June 2002.
For those engaged in the ICT training
-  94 are accredited through the IBA
-  12 have received specialist EBusiness Training from Helm Internet Press Ltd
-  24 have received training from EConnect at British Telecom
- 60 have received TMB Accreditation
Organisational Accreditation - 30 of the 32 members have the ISO 9000 Quality Standard

Government strategies in relation to small business development including the NI Small Business Strategy, the NI Business Birth Rate Strategy, Invest NI's Draft Corporate Plan, the Social Economy Review and the Mapping Exercise for Woman in Enterprise, identify a range of priorities.  These include the need to streamline services at local level, encourage entrepreneurship, and develop programmes that are more customer focused.  Given the capability of the network, Enterprise NI is ideally placed to deliver on these key priorities.
