Ulster Business School Professors Shortlisted for Management Book of the Year prize

Shortlisted for this year’s CMI Management Book of the Year Award, Understanding Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and Small Business (4th edition) by Simon Bridge, and Ken O’Neill, challenges what has become the received wisdom and suggests alternative ways of understanding the processes of entrepreneurship and small business formation and growth .
 
It is one of five books shortlisted in the “Management and Leadership Textbook” category, which recognises the best books that will most effectively support a course of study on a management and leadership topic. The winners will be announced on 3rd February 2014.

National Fellowship for Ulster Business School Dean

Professor Marie McHugh, Dean of the Ulster Business School has become the first recipient in Northern Ireland of a Fellowship from the British Academy of Management, one of the most internationally recognised and respected management academies.  Currently held by only 63 people in the UK, the honour is conferred on individuals who have made an outstanding academic contribution to Business and Management Research and Scholarship.


Small businesses need to evolve and adapt to survive

Small businesses are being challenged to think about the way they do business and how they need to adapt to ever changing consumer behaviours.

An innovative new business support programme launched by Danske Bank aims to get small businesses thinking about the ways consumers now pay, shop, communicate and do their banking.The Business eVolution programme includes customer seminars in every branch, where small businesses can get expert advice and practical support on how to adapt and target the consumer of the future. SSEI is new Social Business Champion

The School for Social Enterprises in Ireland (SSEI) has been announced as MLN's Social Business Champion. One of the main aims of SSEI is to develop managers and leaders so that they have a positive social impact, either by becoming a social entrepreneur or by engaging with social enterprise as a board member, a collaborative partner, a supplier or a customer. As well as delivering accredited development programmes, SSEI also creates awareness and impact events designed to showcase the true value and potential of social enterprise for the private, public and third sectors.  .

ILM Announced as new Professional Partner

Over 200 Delegates attend first Masterclass of new MLN Season

Over 200 local business leaders attended the first event of the new 2013-2014 MLN season. Professor Feargal McCormack, Managing Partner, FPM Chartered Accountants and Angela McGowan, Chief Economist, Danske Bank were the keynote speakers at the seminar which explored how local managers and organisations might ‘Exploit the Recovery’. Angela McGowan presented her expectations for the economy at a global, UK-wide and NI level. Drawing on the FPM experience, Professor McCormack outlined what organisations can do to achieve their aspirations and gain a competitive advantage to exploit fragile recovery.
The event was hosted by MLN Champion Firms Danske Bank, FPM Chartered Accountants and Ulster Business School.
