In the year of the Tokyo Olympics, MLN is delighted to welcome a speaker with a genuinely unique Olympic CV. Dr Stephen Martin MBE is a Double Olympic Hockey Medallist, and former captain of both Great Britain and the Irish Hockey Teams. He won a Gold medal in Seoul 1988 and a Bronze medal in Los Angeles 1984. Following a stellar on-field career, Stephen took up a series of leadership positions within British and Irish Olympics during a period of unprecedented success for both nations. He was Deputy CEO of Team GB between 1998-2006, and CEO of Team Ireland between 2006-18. He led the strategic planning process for the British Olympic Association and the Olympic Council of Ireland and was responsible for the operational planning for Olympic Summer and Winter Games between 2000-2018. Stephen also served as a member of the UK Sports Institute Board which established one of the world’s leading high-performance systems. He was awarded an MBE for Services to Hockey in 1993 and an Honorary Doctorate from Ulster University in 2001. Drawing on this unique experience, Stephen will share what the Olympics can teach business leaders about succession, process, fit & purpose, influencing and resilience.
